Fellow Athletes,

We will start at 6 am (not 6:30 am) and will go 12 miles this Saturday.

IMPORTANT: Read this paragraph multiple times until you clearly understand the plan. Due to Dam construction at around Mile 1.5, we will adopt an alternate route for the remaining three weeks. Here is how we will run our 12 miles.

  1. FIRST TRIP: We will start at Mile 0 (as usual) but walk in the OPPOSITE direction compared to normal. In other words, we will go in the direction of 7.3->7->6->5->4->3->2

  2. We will go up to Mile 2 and come back to Mile 0 (Total distance so far is 5.3 + 5.3 = 10.6 miles)

  3. SECOND TRIP: We will re-start at Mile 0 and go for 0.7 miles (OPPOSITE direction to our usual route) and come back. (Total distance in this stretch is 0.7 + 0.7 = 1.4 miles)

  4. The grand total distance is 10.6 + 1.4 = 12 miles.

  5. You will identify 0.7 miles on your second trip by the DESI GIRLS water cooler. That’s your cue to return to the parking lot.

  6. Those of you running 13.1 miles on Saturday will follow same direction etc. Except during the second trip, you will go up to Mile 6 before returning to the parking lot. (5.3 + 5.3 + 1.3 + 1.3 = 13.2 miles)

Sorry this sounds confusing but this is the best alternate option. If my instructions are not clear, please call/text/whatsapp me. I will walk you through it one more time. I do not want anyone to get lost in the woods. Please, please, please read the instructions thoroughly.

I will place couple of DESI GIRLS water coolers this time. In addition to the one at around the 5 mile mark, an additional one will be kept at mile 6.6 (your cue to return to parking lot). Team DetermiNATION’s Captain Lola has graciously agreed for us to use their water/Gatorade etc. Please feel free to use their facilities but remember to say thanks if you come across one of their team members.

If you are nervously excited for this Saturday’s long run, it means you have taken Desi Girls seriously and you have put your heart and soul into it. Long Distance running takes determination, commitment, time and the willingness to push forward despite obstacles. In return, you will be benefitted with improved stamina and endurance, few pounds lighter and an overall positive attitude.

Despite all these advantages, why do most of you quit the program? Read this interesting article that will help you confront your fears. It is too late for this year but perhaps you would be encouraged to join us again next summer.

So long. Keep Moving. CHEERS

Ramya
