Desi Girls Summer 2015 - Week 12

Girls,

For one second, forget the “Back to School” merchandise in all stores now. Costco has been selling Halloween costumes for few weeks. It makes me very depressed to face the reality that summer is almost over. Soon, all of us will slip into hibernation during the cold, blustery and snowy months in Chicago.

But CHEER UP. We still have few more weeks left to maximize all the simple pleasures of summer. If you have not been joining the Desi Girls long runs regularly or you have quit, it is still ok to reconsider your decision. Our next long run is 11 miles in Beautiful Busse woods. Join us even if you can cover only a shorter distance.

Having Periods during running might be a squeamish topic for most of you but I am choosing to address it here because it happens to every one of us and we are not comfortable talking about it in public. Read this article that talks about “Running and Aunt Flo 101”. I liked that the article’s tone is very casual and less preachy.

More on this topic: 26 year old Harvard MBA Graduate Kiran Gandhi ran the London Marathon this year while having her periods. No big deal, right? She chose to run without any Sanitary napkins or Tampons. <<<<GASP>>>>. Before you judge her, read her blog post on her rationale and what she gained out of it.
