Girls,
How was your weekend? As I have been yapping away endlessly, my weekend was drama filled. Pain, Sweat, Frusturation, Adernaline rush and a post-facto depression (That's it??? I need to wait one more year to experience this thrill again??) have all been part of my weekend.
I have been trying to convince at least a few of you to sign up for the Chicago Half Marathon. It is more than two months away and you have enough time to train and get in shape for it. Give it some serious thought. Training for a half marathon is challenging but it doesn't require hours-long training and you can recover quickly.
Half Marathons began as a poor stepchild of the ancient tradition of Marathon. However, it has become very popular in recent years. According to the latest Running USA statistics, U.S. half marathons had 1.96 million finishers in 2013, compared with 541,000 finishers for the full.
Believe it or not, there is a small movement to rename the half Marathon after the Greek town (Pikermi) that lies halfway between Marathon and Athens. Why call it Half of something when it deserves its own name?
Trivia Time: Greek Hero Pheidippides fran 26.2 miles from the town of Marathon to Athens to announce the Greek victory over the Persians in 490 BC.
So Long, Keep Moving.
CHEERS
