Girls, We will walk/jog/run 5 miles this Saturday. It is an EASY pace which means you DO NOT exert yourself beyond your comfort zone. Given that it will be a hot day, our start time is 6:30 am starting at Mile 0 of Red trail. We will go 2.5 miles and return to the parking lot where we start. If your dataplan permits, use a smartphone app like Runkeeper, Wahoo Fitness, Strava, Endomondo, MapmyRun etc to track where 2.5 miles is. If not, a bright Orange DESI GIRLS flag will indicate the return point. I expect to see all of you there. Plan ahead and car pool if this is your first time. It is tricky to identify Mile 0 of Red trail. This is our fourth Saturday of the Desi Girls Summer 2015. If you haven't joined us for at least ONE long run so far and think it is acceptable for me to scold you and preach, read further. DESI GIRLS is an investment and gift you are giving yourself. Unless you are on vacation, You need to make the time to join us for the long runs. A lot of you signed up but haven't showed up so far. Guess what? Just good intentions alone is not going to reduce those bulges. Unless we put thoughts into action we cannot see any benefit. Surprised???? Here are the top excuses I hear from you and my rebuttals are next to it. 1. I have guests at home - Bring your guest along. I am sure they would enjoy a nice brisk walk on a summer morning. Busse woods is an Oxygen warehouse. The fanciest breakfast you cook for them will not equal the fresh air they can inhale in the woods. 2. I hurt myself and I want to take it slow - Don't break the Saturday morning routine. This program lasts only 15 weeks. If you are hurt, take it slow and don't try to compete with others. Do what you can but BE there. You can walk slow or even crawl, but don't give up. You will find it harder to get out the door few weeks later when you feel better. 3. I cannot run - Let me be clear. This is not a running program. I recognize everyone has a different pace. Crawl/Walk/Jog/Run is acceptable. Remember, you are your only competitor and you should be looking only for your week-over-week improvement. Just as it is foolish for me to compare my performance with a elite runner, it would be silly to compare yourself with anybody around you. Everyone's fitness level, metabolism plus genetics is different and don't ever try to keep up with anyone else around you. 4. I am busy - I am busy too and I operate under several constraints. To name a few, I can only run when it is above 55 degrees, between sunrise and sunset, only around people (no deserted areas) and make sure no compromises or shortcuts are made at home. I workaround all the constraints and no longer find it as a burden. If you prioritize your fitness adequately, you will find ways to achieve your goal. 5. I am not a morning person - This excuse is the worst of all. If we want to be a positive role model for our family (especially our children), we need to show them we are resilient, tough and have a CAN DO attitude. Go to bed early or catch up with lost sleep on Sundays. I have heard other Desi Girls say how they feel positively energized after the long run and their Saturday seems so much longer. By 9 am you have accomplished so much and you are ready to tackle on anything. It is a great feeling. 6. I will be on vacation - I cannot argue with that. Enjoy your well deserved break and have fun. Just make sure to stay physically active. REMEMBER: When Option A is not possible, Let's kick the shit out of Option B (Sheryl Sandburg) As I write this, I have firmed up the DESI GIRLS T Shirt Quote. It will read Desi Girls We Can, We Will More to follow on T Shirt ordering. Keep Moving. CHEERS
