Girls,
We had a decent turnout on our season opener. I would have loved it if many of you had joined but I can understand if you didn't want to venture out in the rain. However, I am not accepting NO for an answer this upcoming Saturday (June 6) due to many reasons.
The run on May 30th was just a warm up. All we did was to get our feet wet, that's it. On June 6th we will run a 5k (3.1 miles) and put our best effort into it. Our performance on June 6th will serve as a baseline for the remainder of the season.
I have invited a good friend of mine Vidhya Ravi to join us. Few of you may know her already but in case you don't, here is an introduction. Vidhya is just like us -- She is a Suburban Mom of two teenagers chauffeuring them around to classes, helping with homework, with a full time job and with typical Desi expectations to cook, clean and maintain a neat house. What makes her unique is She is a Ultra Marathoner (31 long miles), Triathlete and also a Yoga Practitioner. I met her few months ago and I have been awe stuck about how she is able to juggle all this effectively. But, what strikes you the most is her modesty. I requested her to join us in our 5K and she accepted with the condition that I don't hype up her achievements. So, please don't tell her I did :)
You have a wonderful opportunity to interact with her and ask any questions related to fitness, diet, juggling family/job/hobbies, injury prevention etc. Please step out of your comfort zone and say Hello to her and make her feel welcome. Ask her all your questions. You never know where your next source of inspiration will come from in life.
Remember that having a positive frame of mind supersedes any other tip that I can give you to improve your fitness. Read this wonderful article.
Here is my humble request. DESI GIRLS is not a just eNewsletter about fitness. Its true intention is to be a support system for anyone who commits to getting fit over this summer. I take my job very seriously and hold myself accountable if one of you gets injured etc. Please be passionate and follow the posted schedule. Unless there is a major conflict like vacation, sickness or family commitments, please do everything possible to join us in the long runs on Saturdays. If you cannot commit to this program, please let me know right away so I can remove you from this list. If I don't see you regularly on Saturdays, I will not hesitate to check with you individually and give you a little nudge.
Keep Moving. CHEERS.
